The mural gallery along the Trinity Trails is transforming into another asset of the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD). The TRWD Operations team has played an integral role in preparing and maintaining the Painting the River: A Trinity Trails Mural Gallery project. Their help with this initiative is only one part of what they do for TRWD. In addition to this project, they provide other vital maintenance for both the Trinity River and Trinity Trails.
The Operations team performs a series of steps on each structure to prepare them for the artists. The entire process for each structure takes about 16 hours, equaling 400 hours for the project.
First, the Operations team power washes the structures, down to the bare concrete, to remove years of graffiti abatement paint. Next, they repair any damage to the concrete that has occurred over time. After restoring the structures, they apply primer and install scaffolding for the artists. Once the murals are completed, the Operations team applies an anti-graffiti coating to help preserve the work.
The Operations team will continue to play a role in maintaining the pieces moving forward by preserving the murals and continue the viability of the gallery.
